Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Hassan al-Kaabi has announced that the elections of the provincial councils will be held in November.

During a meeting with members of the Independent High Electoral Commission on Sunday, al-Kaabi was quoted by Baghdad Today as saying that the elections of provincial councils will be held on November 16, 2019, calling on the government to take all needed measures to facilitate the polls.

He added that the House of Representatives will go ahead with amending the law regulating the provincial elections, stressing that the councils of provinces – under the new amendments – will be separate from those of districts.

It is the third time for Iraq to announce a date for the provincial elections, which were initially set to be held simultaneously with the parliament elections on May 12, 2018.
