Iraqi President Barham Salih meets Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi President Barham Salih met on Monday with Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi in Baghdad to discuss the latest regional and international developments.

“The meeting tackled the outcome of Iraq’s participation in the emergency Arab summit and the 14th ordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit, which have been recently held in Saudi Arabia,” Iraqi website Alghad Press quoted Abdul Mahdi’s media office as saying in a press statement.

The two officials also discussed efforts exerted to solve problems in Kirkuk and Diyala provinces, as well as means of confronting terrorism and reinforcing peace and social peace.

Abdul-Mahdi stressed on Sunday the need for maintaining Kirkuk’s security and stability, saying that this requires co-operation between the Kurdistan Regional Government, Baghdad, and provincial authorities.

“Security solutions have to go on and be bolstered by political efforts,” the PM told a national Security Council meeting Sunday.

His comments come just days after at least five people were killed and 15 injured in a series of blasts in the disputed city on Thursday.
