Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The Nineveh Criminal Court has sentenced an Islamic State member to death over involvement in killing security personnel in the province.
In a statement, Abdul Sattar al-Bayraqdar, spokesperson for the High Judicial Council, said Nineveh Criminal Court reviewed the case of a “suspect, accused of joining Islamic State. The court decreed sentencing him to death.”
The convict, according to the statement, “killed number of police and military personnel as well as planting bombs in regions of Bab al-Bayd, Qabr al-Bint, al-Boursa and Wadi Hajar in Nineveh.” He also “executed several civilians in Bab al-Hadid region, Ghazi street and al-Sijn in Mosul,” it added.
Last week, two Islamic State members were sentenced to death and a third militant to life over carrying out terrorist operations and attacking security troops. The Central Criminal Court in Baghdad sentenced five persons to death over links with the Islamic State militant group.
Many Islamic State members were detained during liberation battles that freed cities, which were recaptured by the militant group in 2014.
Last month, the criminal court of Nineveh sentenced an Islamic State member, known as al-Muhajir, to death, while the Criminal Court in Baghdad sentenced two militants to life.
