Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A security source revealed that the kidnapped Iraqi journalist, Afrah Shawqi was freed more than a week after being abducted from her home in Baghdad by gunmen, Alsumaria News reported on Wednesday.

The source said, “The armed group that abducted the journalist Afrah Shawqi released her, at evening yesterday, in the capital, Baghdad.”

“The journalist was freed nearly nine days after being kidnapped from her house in al-Saidiyah area, in southern Baghdad,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

Shawqi, a reporter for al-Aalem al-Jadeed online newspaper, was kidnapped Early in December 27, 2016, by an unknown armed group from her residence in Saidiyah, Baghdad.

Later, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi urged security authorities to preserve the safety of journalist Afrah Shawqi and to prosecute whoever proved to be involved into the incident.
