Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Ministry of Migration and Displacement put Monday the number of Iraqi refugees who fled turmoil in Mosul at more than 120.000, one day after the International Organization of Migration counted only 104.424.

There are now 120680 who had fled battlefields pitting Islamic State militants at Iraq’s second largest city against Iraqi government and tribal forces seeking to recapture the region since October, a statement from the ministry has revealed. It stressed that the ministry continues to provide necessary assistance to the flowing families.

The United Nations estimates that there are at least 3 million internally-displaced people in Iraq. Upon the launch of the security campaign to liberate the city of Mosul, the organization had said it was concerned over the fate of more than one million persons there.

Many at refugee camps are reportedly grappling with medicine and food shortages, just like others who are still stranded in the city.
