Norway expresses willingness to support Iraq in eliminating mines

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Norwegian Government expressed its willingness to expand the prospects of support and cooperation with Iraq to reduce the risk of mines spread in the Iraqi territories.

A statement by the Ministry of Environment quoted the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Amir Ali al-Hassoun, as saying “The Minister of Environment, Sargon Saliwa, met with the Foreign Minister of Norway, Jonas Jarstura, in his office in the Norwegian capital Oslo.”

“We touched a real readiness from the Norwegian side to develop their relations with Iraq as Oslo has sponsored a conference for mines where Iraq is among the countries which have large tracts of mines territories caused by the last regime,” Hassoun added.

“This visit came to attend the Conference of Mines and Unexploded bombs which has been attended by more than 100 countries represented by the Foreign Affairs and Environment Ministers of those countries,” he pointed out.

The conference discussed the international agreements concluded in this regard and to reach new agreements in field of eliminating the risks of the mines and unexploded bombs,” MoE’s Spokesperson concluded.
