(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, The President of the Republic Fuad Masum announced he had waived his British passport and returned it to the authorities in the United Kingdom, as he thanked it for granting him the freedom to move and travel.

Masum said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, “President Fuad Masum has returned his British passport to the authorities in the United Kingdom,” noting that, “Masum expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom for granting him the freedom to move and travel.”

The statement added, “Embassy of the United Kingdom received a letter from President Masum, including the passport, which was returned with all respect and appreciation.”

Iraqi constitution stipulates in its article 18 on the permissibility of the multiplicity of nationalities for Iraqis, while imposing for people who have a sovereign or a senior security position to abandon any other nationality.
