Rare manuscript stolen from Kuwait seized by Iraqi security in Babil
Babil (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security seized on Friday a rare manuscript that had been stolen from a Kuwaiti museum during the Iraqi invasion in 1990, police in Babil province said.

In statements on Friday, quoted by Kuwaiti news agency KUNA, Media director at Babil police, Adel al-Hussaini, said they had received intelligence information that one person was planning to sell an old manuscript stolen from Kuwait to a local dealer.

The pair was caught at a local cafe before they could clinch a US$45 million deal, said Hussaini.

The item is “a piece of gazelle hide with exotic inscriptions, but has the seal of the Kuwaiti museum,” according to the official.

The Iraqi army had transferred several valuable items from Kuwaiti government institutions and museums to Iraq during the war waged by late president Saddam Hussein but ended with a US coalition intervention in 1991.
