(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Monday, Hundreds of the Sadrist movement’s followers have demonstrated near the Saudi embassy in central Baghdad against the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, while the security forces and the organizers of the demonstrations have managed to stop the demonstrators who tried to storm the embassy building.

A source said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com, “Today, hundreds of the Sadrist movement’s followers have demonstrated near the Saudi embassy in central Baghdad against the execution of the Shiite Cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.”

The source added, “The demonstrators raised slogans condemning the Saudi authorities, while denounced the opening of the Saudi embassy in the capital Baghdad,” pointing out that, “The demonstrators burned the photos of the Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.”

“The demonstrators tried to storm the Saudi embassy, while the security forces with the help of the organizers of the demonstrations were able to prevent them from reaching the building,” he continued.

Earlier this week, Saudi Ministry of Interior had announced the execution of 47 people who were sentenced to death on terrorism charges, including the cleric Nimr.
