URGENT: Arrest warrant issued against Shia cleric Sarkhi, supporters demonstrate in Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday a source in the Iraqi police said that hundreds of supporters of Shiite cleric Mahmoud al-Hassani Sarkhi demonstrated in front of the Foreign Ministry building in central Baghdad to protest against the issuance of an arrest warrant for Sarkhi.
The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com “dozens of supporters of the cleric Mohammed Sarkhi demonstrated today near the Foreign Ministry in the Green Zone of central Baghdad in protest against the issuance of an arrest warrant for Sarkhi.”
The source, who requested anonymity, added that “the security forces have tightened their procedures around the perimeter of the ministry in anticipation of any emergency.”
