12 Ansar al-Sunna gunmen detained in Diala

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: Police forces on Thursday arrested 12 wanted men of what is called Ansar al-Sunna armed group in northeast of Baaquba, Diala police chief said. “Policemen managed on Thursday (July 1) to wage a military operation in Imam Wies region near borders with Iran in Khanaqin, where they arrested 12 Ansar al-Sunna wanted men, including a senior leader,” General Abdulhussein al-Shemri told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The senior leader is wanted in accordance with Article IV Terrorism Law for killing and displacing scores of civilians,” he added. Jaish Ansar al-Sunna, or Army of the Followers of the Sunna is a militant group based in northern and central Iraq, and includes both Kurdish and Sunni Arab as well as foreign fighters. Khanaqin lies 155 km northeast of Baaquba, the capital city of Diala, which lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SH (P) 3
