Iraqi security forces arrest a suspected Islamic State militant during a security campaign in Mosul city.

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi security forces on Monday arrested 17 members of Islamic State in different parts of the terrorist group’s previously proclaimed capital Mosul.

“Acting upon intelligence reports, Nineveh police arrested 17 IS members, who are wanted by Iraqi judiciary on terror charges,” Baghdad Today website quoted spokesman for the Iraqi Interior Ministry Maj. Gen. Saad Maan as saying.

Four of the arrestees are facing charges of forcibly seizing houses of security forces and Christians during the group’s capture of Mosul city in 2014, the spokesman said, adding that the arrests were made in al-Intisar, al-Mithaq, al-Quds and al-Teseen districts in Mosul’s eastern side.

In July, 2017, former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi announced liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from IS militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016.

A total of 75 Iraqi civilians were killed, while 179 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in September 2018, according to casualty figures by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Baghdad came on top of the worst affected Governorate, with 101 civilian casualties (31 killed, 70 injured), followed by Anbar (15 killed and 37 injured).
