Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Security troops have imposed curfew in southeastern Baghdad, after forty-five people were killed and injured in a bomb blast there, a police source said on Monday.

“Security services imposed curfew in al-Nahrawan region, southeast of Baghdad,” the source told AlSumaria News. “Tight security measures were taken.”

Meanwhile, media reports mentioned that Islamic State claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.

Earlier on the day, a source said Forty-five people were killed and injured in an attack and suicide bombing that took place in southeastern Baghdad.

Speaking to Al-Sumaria News, the source said, “the final figures reached 17 victims and 28 wounded persons due to the suicide attack in al-Nahrawan region.”

“Ambulances transferred the victims to forensic medicine, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, added.

Interior Ministry had said that two suicide attackers opened fire against citizens in al-Nahrawan, before one of them was killed, while the other blew up himself.

Previously on the day, three people were wounded in a bomb blast as an explosive device went off near a market at Jisr Diyala region, southeast of Baghdad.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

114 Iraqi civilians were killed, while 244 others were wounded as result of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly release by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), issued on Wednesday.

Baghdad was the worst affected Governorate, coming in the first place with 177 civilian casualties (38 killed, 139 injured). Anbar province followed with 36 killed and 55 injured, and then Kirkuk with 18 killed and 33 injured.
