Armed attack on checkpoint south of Baghdad, 3 casualties

Baghdad ( A police source informed that a member of al-Hashd al-Ashaeri was killed, while two others were wounded in an armed attack on a checkpoint, south of Baghdad, Alsumaria News reported on Wednesday.

The source said that unidentified gunmen, riding a motorcycle, fired indiscriminately toward a checkpoint belonging to al-Hashd al-Ashaeri in al-Taqa area in al-Yusufiyah vicinity, south of Baghdad, killing one of its members and wounding two others.

Security forces rushed to the area of incident, and transferred the body to the forensic medicine department and the wounded to a nearby hospital to receive the needed treatment, the source added on condition of anonymity.

The capital, Baghdad, is witnessing a surge of violence, including suicide attacks using car bombs and explosive vests, in addition to separate attacks against civilians and security members.
