Armed group’s key member captured in Talafar

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Policemen captured a leading member of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq group on Saturday, a security source in Talafar said. “The armed group operative was arrested in al-Salam neighborhood, northern Talafar district, (60 km) west of Mosul city,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The arrest was made based on confessions by some persons arrested earlier,” he added. The Islamic State of Iraq, which was announced in October 2006, is a parent group composed of seven armed organizations, most prominent of them is al-Qaeda in Iraq. The State, led by a man of the name Abu Omar al-Boghdadi, is active in central and western Iraq. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
