Army soldier kills, wounds 14 family members near Nasiriyah

(IraqiNews.com) Dhi Qar – Dhi Qar Police Command announced on Wednesday, that an Army Soldier either killed or wounded 14 persons of his family due to a dispute, in northern Nasiriyah.
The Command said in a press statement, “A member of the Ministry of Defense, on Tuesday, fired indiscriminately at members of his family due to a dispute at their house in Al Moen village, in Shatra district, killing his mother, two brothers, his wife and his cousin, as well as wounding nine others.”
“Security forces rushed to the area of incident and arrested the 23-year- old perpetrator after confiscating his Kalashnikov rifle,” the statement added. “The wounded were transferred to the hospital and the dead bodies to the forensic medicine department in Hussein Educational Hospital in central Nasiriyah,” the statement said.
The Police Command revealed that the preliminary information indicates the presence of family dispute, and pointed out that it will open an investigation to determine reasons and circumstances of the incident.
