Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A local source in Nineveh Province revealed, that the Leader of the self-proclaimed Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi promoted one of the local leaders to be the group’s new Emir in Tal afar, west of Mosul, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.

The source said, “The Islamic State’s Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi appointed one of his local leader, known as Abu As’ad al-Iraqi, as the new Emir of Tal Afar.”

“The new Emir will lead the terrorist group in the battle against al-Hashd al-Shaabi and security forces stationed in the district,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

“The new Emir is a 40-year-old mathematics teacher, and was a prominent leader of IS sleeper cells in Mosul before moving to Tal Afar,” the source explained.

“The decision of Baghdadi is expected to prevent any internal conflicts between the members of the Islamic State due to the disputes between its Arab and foreign leaders,” the source further added.

Forces from al-Hashd al-Shaabi managed in November 16, to liberate Tal Afar Airport, in western Nineveh, from the control of the Islamic State.
