Bodies of three civilians, executed by Islamic State, found, west of Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Three decayed bodies of civilians, executed by Islamic State, were found, west of Nineveh, a security source from the province said on Monday.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said, “security troops found, in the evening, three decayed bodies of people executed by Islamic State during its control on Mosul city. The militants threw the bodies inside a wastewater station in west of Mosul.”

“Security troops transferred the bodies to forensic medicine department,” the source, who preferred anonymity, said without giving further details.

On Saturday, eight dead bodies of civilians were reportedly recovered from under the debris, while removing the rubble near Tigris river in Mosul.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, the group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
