Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) – A member of the paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces was killed and two others were injured in a bomb attack in Salahuddin province, a security source was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Speaking to Baghdad Today website, the source said an explosive charge targeted a security patrol of the 52nd brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Amirli town in eastern Salahuddin.

“The bomb attack left a fighter dead and two others injured,” according to the source.

Earlier in the day, an Iraqi woman was killed in a mortar attack on Abu Sayda district in Diyala.

In statements to Almaalomah news website, a security source said that a mortar shell fell on an agricultural land in a village in central Abu Sayda district in Diyala, leaving a woman dead.

Popular Mobilization Forces, an alliance of volunteer Shia paramilitary forces, have actively backed the Iraqi government’s military campaign against Islamic State since 2014, when they were formed upon a top Shia clergy edict to counter the Sunni Jihadist group.

PMF won official recognition as a national force late 2016, becoming under the command of the prime minister, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces.
