Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Seven members of the Islamic State extremist group were killed in the explosion of a car bomb, while preparing it with explosives, in central Hawija southwest of Kirkuk, a security source told Alsumaria News on Wednesday.

The source said, “This morning, a booby-trapped vehicle exploded, while members of the Islamic State group were trying to prepare it with explosives, inside one of the houses near the City Hall building, in central Hawija, killing seven members of the terrorist group.”

“The explosion inflicted material losses on the nearby houses in the area of incident,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

The Islamic State group captured the areas south of Kirkuk in June 2014, including Hawija, Zab, Riyad, Abbasi and Rashad.
