Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Central Criminal Court in Baghdad has sentenced an Islamic State militant, who worked with the group’s health department, to life.

“The Central Criminal Court reviewed a lawsuit of an Islamic State member,” Abdul Sattar al-Bayraqdar, the spokesperson for the High Judicial Council, said in a statement on Thursday. “The convict was in charge of nurses in Nineveh’s health department, while the group was in control of the province.”

The militant, according to the statement, “admitted to joining the group in 2015 and that he worked for the group’s health department for the sake of treating the wounded militants.”

Many Islamic State members were detained during liberation battles that freed cities, which were recaptured by the militant group in 2014.

Earlier this week, an Iraqi court sentenced four militants to life in prison over joining the militant group.

In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
