(IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi announced on Friday in a recorded statement that more than 2,000 Iraqis were executed in Nineveh province at the hands of ISIS extremists, who control the region.

Ministry officials could not confirm when the executions took place and how they were.

It is not easy to reach large areas in the north and west of Iraq since ISIS invaded them, after crossing the Syrian border in the middle of the year 2014.

Witnesses and sources at a morgue in Mosul, the capital of Nineveh, said,” Most executions took place over the past six months.” The sources pointed out that the militant group ISIS distributed lists of names of the victims.

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi said in a video posted on the website of the Ministry announced that “ISIS executed 2070 from the citizens of Nineveh, who did not cooperate with it.”
