Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday, that 70 members of the Islamic State (IS), including 20 leaders by an air strike, west of Mosul.

The ministry said in a press statement, “Iraqi Air Force, based on accurate intelligence information, conducted an air strike targeting gathering of leaders of the Islamic State in Tel Abta, west of Mosul,” pointing out that, “Those terrorists were planning terrorist attacks against our troops that besiege Tel Afar city.”

“The Air Force hit the gathering and killed more than 20 leaders,” the statement explained. “50 terrorists were also killed by the air strike, the statement further added.

The province of Nineveh is witnessing extensive military operations since 17 October 2016, in order to retake the city of Mosul that was occupied by the Islamic State in June 2014.
