 Salahuddin deputy governor announces full control over Biji oil refinery

(IraqiNews.com) The deputy governor of Salahuddin Ammar al-Baldawi announced on Tuesday, that the security forces have managed to regain control of Biji oil refinery north of Tikrit after killing dozens of ISIS elements, pointing to the beginning of a large-scale military operation to liberate the desert areas near Anbar province.

Al-Baldawi said in an interview with IraqiNews.com, “In the past few days, Biji oil refinery suffered from a fierce attack from by the ISIS group using car bombings, armored vehicles and suicide bombers, but our security forces were able to repel the attack and kill dozens of ISIS elements, as well as incurring significant losses in equipment.”

Al-Baldawi added, “The situation in Biji is fully controlled by our military units,” noting that, “The security forces backed by al Hashd al-Sha’bi will begin in the coming days a large military operation to liberate the desert areas towards Anbar province from ISIS control.”
