Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Eight people, including security personnel were killed and injured as a bomb blast took place on an agricultural road, northeast of Baquba, Diyala, local sources said on Friday.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, Awwad al-Rubei’y, head of the security committee of Abu Sayda town, said “three civilians were killed late on Thursday in a bomb blast on an agricultural road near Berwana region, at the outskirts of Abu Sayda.”

Moreover, five security personnel were killed and injured due to the blast.

“Three security personnel were killed, while two others were injured, late yesterday, in a blast near Berwana village,”Adnan al-Tamimi, head of Muqdadiya municipal council, told Alghad Press on Friday.

The blast, according to Tamimi, “targeted security personnel while on their way back home.”

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.

A total of 68 Iraqis were killed and another 122 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in April, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

As many as 3,298 civilians were killed and 4,781 others were wounded in 2017, excluding Anbar civilian casualty figures for November and December, which are not available, UNAMI said in a report in December.
