Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Eleven Islamic State militants and an emir were killed in operations carried out by the Iraqi army in northeast of Diyala.

Speaking to AlSumaria News on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Mazhar al-Azzawi, commander of Dijla Operations, said, “cooperation between the command with al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) resulted in locating an IS hideout in north of Muqdadiyah in Diyala.”

“The hideout was shelled by army jets, leaving eleven militants killed,” he added.

Huge losses were inflicted on IS, according to Azzawi, due to shelling its havens and rest houses in several regions in Diyala.

In related news, the security committee of Diyala provincial council announced killing an IS emir in an operation in northeast of the province.

“IS lost a new emir in Neft Khana basin, northeast of Baquba, in an operation by army jets,” Sadeq al-Husseini, head of the committee, told AlSumaria News.

“Joint troops managed over the past 48 hours to eradicate three havens of IS in Wadi Thelab and Hawi al-Udhaim,” he added.

Moreover, a security source from the province said a security personnel was killed by IS sniper.

“Security checkpoint between al-Kabbah and Shikhi villages, northeast of Diyala, was attacked by IS snipers, killing one of the security personnel there,” the source told Alghad Press.

The victim, according to the source, was transferred to forensic medicine department, while a security operation was launched in the region.
