Fallujah not bomb-free yet, official says after deadly blasts

(IraqiNews.com) Anbar – Some areas of the city of Fallujah have not yet been searched by security and still contain booby-traps and unexploded IEDs, a local official said hours after two deadly car blasts killed nine people on Monday.

Ragea Barakat, a member of the security committee at al-Anbar province’s council, said the two explosions carried out by the Islamic State was “a reaction to military operations to liberate Mosul,”, referring to the city where ISIS has been enduring weeks of defeats to Iraqi forces, popular militias and US-led air forces.

“In Fallujah, there are still areas that have not been searched by security forces,” he said in a statement. “Those areas contain booby-trapped cars and unexploded IEDs.”

The two car explosions at the districts of Nazal and in downtown Fallujah left 5 soldiers and 4 civilians dead, as well as 10 soldiers and 16 soldiers wounded.
