Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Four civilians were killed in an armed attack and three militants were arrested in Mosul city, official sources were quoted saying on Thursday.

Speaking to BasNews, Col. Tarek Jalil, spokesperson for Nineveh Police Command, said “unidentified gunmen attacked a house in Baghla village in Badush town, northwest of Mosul. They killed a father and three of his sons.”

Security troops, according to Jalil, “cordoned off the village in search for the perpetrators. The bodies were transferred to forensic medicine department in Mosul.”

Moreover, the Security Media Center announced on Thursday arresting three militants in al-Tanak region in Mosul.

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasool, spokesperson for the center, said the military intelligence department “arrested a terrorist cell composed of three members in al-Tanak region in Mosul.”

The members, according to Rasool, were transferred to authorities in question to take legal measures against them.

Last week, 17 Islamic State members were killed as they set a fake checkpoint to abduct civilians. The security operation was carried out on the road linking between Hatra and Mosu

In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, the group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
