Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Security measures have been imposed in Mosul after two policemen were killed and three Islamic State militants infiltrated into southeast of the city, a source from Nineveh police said on Thursday.

“Security troops besieged eastern and western Yarimja and Sumar districts after two policemen were killed in the morning and IS militants sneaked into the three districts,” Cap. Amer Shaker told BasNews.

“Nineveh police was informed that IS members infiltrates at these districts. Fire shooting was heard, which urged troops to dispatch deployments to the districts and besieging them,” he added.

Troops, according to Amer, “imposed curfew at the three districts, while the policemen’s bodies were transferred to forensic medicine department in Mosul.”

On Wednesday, news reports mentioned that six out of 20 militants, who previously infiltrated into Mosul, were killed in southeast of Mosul.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi declared in July victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25,000 Islamic State militants were killed throughout the campaign.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

A total of 117 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 264 injured, excluding police, in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in November, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
