Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi judiciary has cleared a German woman of Turkish origins, Hadya abdul Qader, of affiliation with Islamic State, after one year of detention.

“Judiciary did not find evidence on abdul Qader’s affiliation with Islamic State, after being held in Mosul for almost a year,” a judicial source said, adding that she is in her fifties.

“She could remain in detention for several weeks awaiting any challenge or confirming the verdict,” he said adding that she stood trial in Baghdad not Mosul, where she was detained.

According to AFP, the court set an ultimatum for prosecution to decide if the verdict will be confirmed or appealed. However, German authorities said her name is unknown for them.

Iraq sentenced over 300 persons, including at least 100 foreigners, over joining Islamic State.

In April, Iraqi court sentenced a German woman of Moroccan origins to 20 years in prison over joining Islamic State.

A 17-year old German woman was sentenced to six years in prison over joining the militant group and crossing the borders illegally.

Many IS members were detained during liberation battles that freed cities, which were recaptured by the militant group in 2014. Thousands of militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
