(IraqiNews) Iraqi Ministry of Interior Affairs announced on Saturday seizing 20 improvised explosive devices and explosive materials, south of Baghdad.

In a press statement the ministry said that forces from the Falcons Intelligence Cell were able to seize 20 containers, 332 detonators, 155 detonation timers and equipment and explosive connectors.

It further added that, “These materials were seized in the Aker al-Saadan area, south of Baghdad, in coordination with the 17th Division and under the supervision of the Joint Operations Command, which was dealing with material seized.”

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
