Anbar (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi intelligence forces arrested on Sunday an Islamic State sniper in al-Karma district in the western province of Anbar.

“Troops of the Military Intelligence Directorate carried out a security operation in al-Karma district in Anbar to target Islamic State militants, who fought against our security forces before the liberation of the province from terrorism,” Ayn Al Iraq news website quoted the directorate as saying.

“The troops were able to arrest an Islamic State sniper during the operation,” the statement read, adding that the arrestee was moved to the bodies concerned for interrogation.

Former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi declared the end of military operations against Islamic State in Iraq on December 9, 2017 three years after the militant group captured about a third of Iraq’s territory.

Despite defeat in Iraq in late 2017, many IS remnants remain at large in the hideouts of the Arab country.
