Iraqi troops destroy Islamic State hideaway in Baghdad

Iraqi security forces arrest a suspected member of the Islamic State group

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Iraqi troops destroyed on Monday a terrorist hotbed of Islamic State (IS) during a security operation in the capital Baghdad.

“Security forces managed to destroy a terrorist hideout of Islam State inside a garden at al-Tarmia neighborhood in Baghdad,” Knooz Media quoted the Baghdad Operations Command as saying in a statement.

“The troops also arrested a terrorist and defused an explosive charge inside the hotbed as well,” the command said.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Iraqi courts have sentenced tens of Islamic State members, including a big number of female members, to death over joining the militant group.

The exact number of detained militants is still unknown, however, it’s estimated to be at thousands. It’s also unclear how many members are likely to face death sentences.

Moreover, the Iraqi government did not provide estimates about number of the foreign detained militants or those who have Arab or Iraqi origins.

  1. Do you think the world would be a better place if we left Iraq alone, there has been no sign of any WOMD, our very triger for war. The birth of IS was back then when a strong man, tribe, bath party or sect, cemented the country together, Saddam was an evil man, but he was their evil man, and their’s to depose. The whole Med, area has gone mad since that war other dictators have fallen, by foul means the UN has said nothing, and all that took over these fallen states puppet governments was partly IS.
If the UN has no nerve to sanction the big boys or is scared to, what is the point of it’s existance ?
Has the free world got the right to do as it pleases because it thinks it’s in a good cause at the time ?
