Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A local source from Diyala province has blamed the attack by Islamic State members against a village in northeast of Baquba, late on Wednesday, on arresting four militants few days ago.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said “Residents of Klabat village, at the southern borders of Jabbara region, northeast of Baquba, managed to arrest four Islamic State members, including a leader, and extradite them to security services.”

The attack, according to the source, who preferred anonymity, “was carried out late against Klabat village in response to detaining the militaning by the residents.”

“The murder of a civilian and injury of another happened after a bomb blast occurred targeting residents coming from Jabbara toward the village to support others there,” the source added.

Earlier today, Diyala Operations Command said an armed attack was carried out against the village.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
