Iraqi security forces arrest a suspected member of the Islamic State group

Anbar ( Islamic State member in charge of the petroleum products has been arrested, east of Fallujah city in Anbar, a mobilization forces commander was quoted saying on Monday.

In remarks to Almaalomah website, Col. Mahmoud Mordi al-Jumeili, commander with al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Anbar, said, “security troops carried out an operation al al-Dawayah region in al-Karma town, east of Fallujah, during which they besieged IS leader called Ahmed Meshaan al-Duleimi, in charge of the petroleum products, without any confrontations.”

Duleimi, according to Jumeili, “is considered a prominent IS leader. He is in charge of providing the group with petroleum products as well as money.”
Arresting Duleimi “comes within a plan draw by security troops to follow the remnants of Islamic State in the liberated regions,” Jumeili added. “He was transferred under tight security measures to a detention cell for investigations.”
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
