Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) The Islamic State’s chief human organs trafficker fled the group’s stronghold town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul, a local source said Tuesday.

Alsumaria News quotes the source saying that the militant, locally nicknamed “Abul Akbad” (livers man), fled the town along with three companions to an unknown destination.

Abul Akbad carried the nationality of an Arab-African country, and had been based in Tal Afar (55 km west of Mosul) since the group took over the area in 2014.

“Abul Akbad had been implicated in selling more than 500 pieces of human organs belonging to militants killed in battles, and had spd them to traffickers in neighboring countries,” said the source.

“That earned him millions of dollars,” he added.

Since Iraqi forces launched a campaign last October to retake Nineveh regions from IS, the group reportedly sold organs of its dead fighters, an action which observers said signalled how desperate the group was to secure financial resources as it had lost control over oil fields at areas it had previously lost to Iraqi troops in Salahuddin, Kirkuk and Nineveh.

Tal Afar and a few other surrounding areas are the last remaining IS-held targets for Iraqi forces which cleared Mosul from militants last week.
