Man wanted for murder netted in Diwaniya

DIWANIYA / IraqiNews.com: A combined Iraqi army-police force arrested a man wanted on charges of murder, plunder and planting explosive charges in al-Diwaniya in a military operation on Saturday, an anti-terror bureau chief in the city said. “A police force conducted the security operation in the city of al-Najaf in coordination with the Iraqi army’s 8 th Division upon intelligence on the wanted criminal’s whereabouts,” Lt. Colonel Sattar Ali Matar told IraqiNews.com. “The man, Mijabel al-Fidaie, is a cell leader in Diwaniya,” the source added. Diwaniya, a Shiite province, lies 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. In 2002, the population of Diwaniya was estimated at 420,000. The area around the province, which is well irrigated from the nearby Euphrates River, is often considered to be one of the most fertile parts of Iraq, and is heavily cultivated. The town is located on the main rail transport corridor between Baghdad and Basra. For birdwatchers, Diwaniya is a city with a rich bird list, as it has a wide range of biodiversity. AmR (P) 1
