Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Nine security personnel were killed and injured in an armed attack, carried out, west of Anbar, an informed security source from the province said on Saturday.

Speaking to BasNews, the source said, “armed people attacked a convoy for al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Sad al-Khuzeimi region, as the personnel were heading toward other provinces for a vacation. One personnel was killed, while eight others were injured.”

Security troops, according to the source, who preferred anonymity, “headed toward the accident spot and transferred the wounded to hospital for treatment and followed the perpetrators, who fled toward unknown destination.”

Western regions of Anbar, especially the desert roads that link the border regions with Syria, where PMFs are deployed, are highly exposed to armed attacks, the source added.

Earlier today, army fighter jets shelled a vehicle of Islamic State once it arrived at the same region, west of Rutba, which left the militant tasked with transferring explosives, known as Khalaf al-Alwani, killed and three of his companions injured.

On Friday, two IS leaders were killed, while a third was seriously injured as army jets targeted a hideout of the militant group in al-Dabaa region, south of Rutba.

Nine Islamic State members were killed, on Wednesday, as army jets shelled a secret tunnel of Islamic State in Wadi al-Maraabdiya region in Hit town, west of Anbar.
