Saadiya district chief survives assassination attempt

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: The director of al-Saadiya district escaped an attempt on his life while heading for his work on Thursday, according to a source from the Diala police department. “The director of al-Saadiya district, Khanaqin, was the target of an assassination attempt with an improvised explosive device (IED) that went off near his motorcade heading for his work,” the source told Iraqi News. Khanaqin, one of the disputed areas between the central government in Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government Kurdistan RegionG), lies 155 km east of Baaquba. “The attempt, the fourth since the official took office, left three of his bodyguards badly wounded,” the source added, not giving further details on the incident.
