(IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, Security Council Committee in Salahuddin province revealed the reasons for the use of the US-led international coalition in the military operations in Tikrit, while denied that the coalition bombed the security forces and the Volunteer Fighters sites, stressing that the next few hours will witness the beginning of a ground offensive to liberate the city.

A member of the Committee Ali Fadel Dujaili said in an interview with IraqiNews.com, “The military operations began on Wednesday evening to liberate the remaining parts of the city of Tikrit, including presidential palaces and the surrounding areas,” adding that, “There are air strikes and artillery on the city.”

Dujaili added, “In the coming hours, a ground offensive will take place to liberate the city from ISIS control. The Iraqi forces and the Volunteer Fighters are able to liberate Tikrit without the use of the international coalition forces.”

Dujaili pointed out that, “The use of the international coalition aircrafts was because of the need of some areas for such type of aviation because of the existence of accurate targets that Iraqi aircrafts cannot address,” denying at the same time “any bombing on the sites of the security forces and the Volunteer Fighters by the international coalition.”
