Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Six Islamic State militants were killed, while the seventh was arrested in south of Mosul, a commander said.

“Iraqi troops backed by the U.S.-led Coalition managed to kill six terrorists and arrest the seventh at 3:30 Am near Hawi Aslan village at Hammam al-Alil region, south of Mosul,” Maj. Gen. Najm al-Jabouri, commander of Nineveh Operations, told Alghad Press on Saturday.

“The operation depended on accurate intelligence information,” Jabouri added. “It shows to the residents that we are working day and night to protect them.”

On Friday, twenty five Islamic State militants with fake identities were arrested in southeast of Mosul as a security campaign was carried out in three districts including Sumar, al-Salam and al-Sahiroun,, according to Nineveh police department.

On Wednesday, news reports mentioned that six out of 20 militants, who previously infiltrated into Mosul, were killed in southeast of Mosul.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi declared in July victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25,000 Islamic State militants were killed throughout the campaign.

Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, have been fighting since October 2016 to retake territories Islamic State had occupied.
