Basra (IraqiNews.com) Basra Criminal Court has issued three death sentences against a terrorist involved in exploding bombs targeting security services in Diyala, the media office at Basra Federal Appeals Court.

In a statement, the office said, “the Criminal Court in Basra issued a verdict that sentences a suspect to death in accordance with the counter-terrorism law for the year 2005.”

The verdict, according to the statement, “was issued against as he took part, along other suspects, in 2007 in planting bombs and exploding them against military vehicle for the Iraqi army in al-Abbara region in Diyala province.”

Another sentence was issued against the same suspect “for taking part, along others, in placing and exploding bombs that targeted police patrol in 2008 in al-Qubba region in Abbara.” The third sentence was issued “for taking part in shooting a citizen causing his immediate death in 2008.”

The suspect, according to the statement, “belonged to Al-Qaeda. He carried out his crimes with terrorist motivations.”

Many IS members were detained during liberation battles that freed cities, which were recaptured by the militant group in 2014.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over the militant group, previously in December, however, observers warn that the group still poses a security threat with sleeper cells.
