Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Two Islamic State members have been arrested in Nineveh province, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Security Media Center quoted the ministry as saying, “the military intelligence managed to arrest two terrorists in al-Qayyarah and al-Shura regions in Mosul.”

On Monday, the center said two Islamic State members, who targeted a mayor through a bomb, were killed during confrontations in west of Mosul.

Earlier this week, news reports quoted sources as saying an officer was killed, while detonating a bomb in al-Quds district, east of Mosul. Two army soldiers were injured as a bomb blast targeted a military patrol on the main road to Hammam al-Alil region, south of Mosul.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

Thousands of militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
