2 Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security troops have killed two Islamic State members following confrontations in west of Mosul, while other militants were arrested in north of the city, a security source told Shafaq News.

Troops of the Tribal Mobilization Forces, backed by the jets of the U.S.-led Coalition, destroyed a tunnel, where two IS members were hiding. They had confrontations with the troops, which managed to killed them in Badush village, west of Mosul, the source said on Monday.

The troops, according to the source, found out about the tunnel through reflectors used to transfer electricity.

In related news, al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) arrested six brothers, who belong to Islamic State, in Talkeef town, north of Mosul.

The members are charged with killing tens of civilians in south of Mosul, the source added.

On Sunday, the local affairs department in Nineveh said troops managed to arrest an Islamic State leader, along with one of his relatives who is an army conscript in Nineveh.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced, in December, full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members.

Thousands of IS militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
