Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Two people were injured in a bomb blast north of Baghdad on Wednesday, a security source told IKH News.

“An explosive device planted near a market in Suleikh region in Baghdad went off, leaving two civilians injured,” the source said.

He added that security forces sealed off the blast site, while ambulances transferred the wounded to nearby hospitals.

On Sunday, two security personnel were killed, while four civilians were wounded in a bomb blast and armed attacks in Baghdad.

“Unidentified gunmen targeted, today, a house in Jisr Diyala region, using a hand grenade. Two persons of the family in the house were wounded,” a source said.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

About 114 Iraqi civilians were killed, while 244 others were wounded as result of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly release by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), issued on November 8.

Baghdad was the most affected province, coming in the first place with 177 civilian casualties (38 killed, 139 injured). Anbar province followed with 36 killed and 55 injured, and then Kirkuk with 18 killed and 33 injured.
