Haditha (IraqiNews.com) Two young girls were arrested on Tuesday before carrying out a suicide bombing in western Anbar, a security source was quoted saying.

Alghad Press quoted the source saying that the pair was arrested before targeting an officer’s residence in the city of Haditha.

The source said the officer was a top commander at a force that was the first to combat Islamic State militants in Anbar, adding that the force, which started with only seven members, now comprises 90 fighters.

Islamic State militants have occasionally targeted Haditha with attacks but never enjoyed a stable foothold.

Iraqi forces have recently recaptured the town of Rawa, on Anbar’s borders with Syria, effectively ending Islamic State’s three-year occupation of Iraqi territories which began in 2014 with a proclamation of a self-styled “caliphate”.
