U.S. allies to send 1,500 troops to Iraq, says Lt.Gen. James Terry

(IraqiNews.com) On Monday, U.S. commander guiding the anti-ISIS coalition, Lt. Gen. James Terry said, that U.S. allies have committed to send about 1,500 soldiers to Iraq to help in training Iraqi and Kurdish troops fighting the ISIS group.

Terry said, that those additional soldiers would be on top of the up to 3,100 troops, that U.S. President Barack Obama has previously authorized to deploy in Iraq, and that the U.S. allies committed themselves to send the roughly 1,500 during a conference among coalition members.

Terry said, “When you start now to balance the different capabilities out across the coalition, I think we’re doing pretty well in terms of boots on the ground.” He also noted, that even though the ISIS group militants conducted some attacks, but the group appeared broadly on the defense, “trying to hold what they have gained.”

Terry did not say which countries agreed to contribute by sending troops nor did he reveal the final number determined. Instead, he added that most of them would be involved with training.
