Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell has denied news on killing and injuring of U.S. service members during combat operations or due to being targeted by Islamic State militants.

In a statement on Monday, the WMC said a missile was shot killing two U.S. service members and injuring three others while checking one of the canons, north of Aiyadhiya in Kurdistan region.

The incident, according to the statement, was neither caused during combat operations or while being in contact with enemies or due to being targeted by Islamic State group. It was part of a routine task that soldiers do to check the weapons.

On Sunday, IS claimed responsibility for an attack against U.S. service members saying fighters fired Grad rockets on U.S. forces, which back the Iraqi forces in battles against the militants in east of Tal Afar town, located west of Mosul, according to Reuters.

This came after the U.S. military announced that two U.S. service members were killed, while five others were wounded in combat operations in north of Iraq. Preliminary reports showed that the incident was not due to contact with enemy, according to the military’s statement published by Reuters.
