Erbil (BasNews) In accordance to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Peshmerga and United States’ Department of Defense, Washington continues providing 26 billion Iraqi Dinnar (approximately $20.3 million) monthly to Kurdish Peshmerga forces, the ministry revealed.

The fund covers wages for 36,000 Peshmerga troops, Jabbar Yawar, the ministry’s secretary general said on Tuesday.

According to the official, the US also provides Ministry of Peshmerga with spare parts for military equipment it has previously sent to the Kurdish forces to help them with their fight against Islamic State (IS).

Due to the costly war on terrorism and the sinking price of oil on the international markets, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has been grappling with serious financial crisis which resulted in delay in payrolls for public servants including the Peshmerga.
