Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Undersecretary of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, Omar Al-Barzanji, received Iraqi antiquities in Switzerland from the Specialized Body for the International Transfer of Cultural Property.

The handover ceremony of the artifacts took place on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture in the Swiss capital, Bern.

The artifacts included two bronze daggers and two spear heads dating back to 1000 BC, as well as 20 ancient coins from the Abbasid Caliphate.

During the ceremony, Al-Barzanji spoke about the history and civilization of Iraq, pointing out that Iraq is the cradle and home of many civilizations, as well as the diversity of nationalities, races and religions.

Al-Barzanji also appreciated the sincere intentions of the Swiss authorities to return these Iraqi artifacts to their original place.

The scientific director of the Specialized Body for the International Transfer of Cultural Property expressed her happiness to represent her country on this special occasion, noting that Iraq was the first to invent writing, and is the cradle of many ancient civilizations such as Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian and others.
